Everyday Blues 2022
A calendar to hold the UK government to account.
Everyday Blues is a calendar with a difference. Whilst looking forward to the plans and excitement of 2022, it also looks back at the events of 2021.
This calendar is made up of daily news headlines from 2021 to keep track of the Conservative government’s actions over the past year. Too often politicians control the narrative – manipulating news cycles and spinning stories. As time goes on and we forget about the many individual events that have happened it becomes easier to tell a different story – one that removes the blame from the people in power and places it on the shoulders of those who often have no influence.
A Prime Minister who flew back from COP26 on a private jet telling you that it’s because you rinsed your plates before putting them into the dishwasher that we’re in a climate catastrophe. A party who gave billions of pounds to their mates without any competition blaming vulnerable asylum seekers for siphoning our funds.
By keeping a record of events as they happen, we can see how we’ve gotten to where we are now and who’s actually responsible. And what better way to keep track than a calendar?
To give this rather serious subject a more joyful twist, we collaborated with 12 talented artists from across the UK. The result is 12 wonderful artworks, all in their own unique style spanning painting, photography, collage, illustration and more. All the work has been created in response to the calendar – some reference particular headlines, others capture the emotions generated by the government’s actions, and others are more hopeful imaginings of an alternative world. Each artist has put forward an organisation that the profits will be split between.
By reminding ourselves of the events of the past, we can act now to make a better future.
